What no one tells you about pivoting... Slingshot
Oxford, 03 Feb. 2016
Slingshot Recruitment was originally set to innovate the UK's recruitment market. Using swarm intelligence instead of a company's HR division, trying to establish a candidate-job-fit. But recently, Laurence Cruse realised that he should stop pivoting.
Innovating the UK's Employment Market
The idea behind Slingshot Recruitment
Laurence Cruse had a mission: innovating the employment market and especially the way in which the recruitment process would be carried out. As headhunting mostly focusses on a person's CV and former positions, Slingshot should focus on a real candidate-job-fit. Thus, not former positions and academic achievements should decide about a candidate's occupational aptitude but their skills and thereby the real fit to a position.

Swarm intelligence to assess CVs
Laurence's vision had no room for headhunters or recruiters, instead the employment process should be innovated using swarm intelligence. Consequently, he started to build his MVP and gave people a way to evaluate CVs. He also searched for a coder who would share his passion but had trouble finding one. In the end, his idea seemed not to be feasible anymore - even for the one person who's vision it originally was.Try his MVP to assess CVs here: http://www.myslingshot.org/rate-my-cv/
When stop pivoting?
Laurence Cruse shares his insights
As Laurence realised that his efforts of the last four years - including many pivots - haven't brought him closer to his vision of a new kind of recruitment he finally decided to pivot once more. This final pivot was a private one: Instead of a new approach he laid Slingshot Recruitment to rest and joined Gyana, a startup we will soon report about. Although he stopped focussing on the employment processes' innovation, he surly will keep on innovating. The full article about pivoting and Laurence's personal decision to cease working on Slingshot Recruitment can be found here:
