A former Kenyan model and an MBA student are starting a new Oxford-based skincare company - they are about to change how we think about organic beauty products. Translating the intrinsic value of old African traditions and ceremonies, they are about to create a splendid product with mythical origins for the Western world.

Where it all began

The secret of beauty

Working as a model, one gets curious about the question what people might understand as the concept of beauty. Therefore, Carolyne was investigating different countries' perception of beauty. Almost incidentally, she discovered African traditions and ceremonies, which are related to the concept of beauty, and which are also long forgotten in the Western world.

Using forgotten knowledge

After this discovery, the necessity to deepen the knowledge in the tribes' native knowledge became her real journey. Talking to many people, especially the elderly, the idea to use the retrieved wisdom to create cosmetic products for the Western world was born. A little time later, she also met her co-founder, Tobias, at an event at the Oxford University's Business School.

A bride-to-be has to look beautiful

One of the retrieved beauty secrets is a ceremony of preparation for a wedding. In order for her (skin) to look stunning on her special day, the application of an organic facial/body mask starts several weeks in advance of the wedding day. So, one of the startup's first products aims to enhance the complexion of a bride's skin.

Native Wisdom Skincare has not only the goal of connecting the Western world with native traditions, it also has the aim to give back to the people, whose resources and wisdom it uses: Sourcing raw materials ethically, educating these communities, and paying fair prices.
