Gyana - Sense, Know, Decide
Oxford, 15 March 2016
Gyana wants to change how we see the world. The startup uses aerial imagery and sentiment analysis to create mood-based maps for the masses. After starting out in Oxford's Launchpad, the startup got a massive investment and moved to London.
How does something big start?
Triggering innovation
The idea for Gyana evolved during the ISIS summer accelerator programme 2014, a part of Oxford University's innovation programme. Joyeeta Das, the startup's CEO, participated in the programme, which then triggered the creation of this innovative big data startup. The bigger picture
Gyana is set to change the world. That said, the startup is using sentiment analysis on social media and combines the findings with aerial imagery. Thereby, creating a new kind of map: a mood map. If you would use this in Oxford, you might find yourself on High Street, where a lot of people are shopping for the latest fashion trends. Everyone is excited, so the map shows many green dots scurrying around. On the other hand, if a city's soccer team loses a game, the correlating map might shows you many red (angry) dots.Future outlook
As the company was valued at £12M, an amount of around $2M has been invested into Gyana as further seed capital in November 2015. Having enough money to give their employees a salary, the company even moved from Oxford to London. Also, they are pursuing a step by step model, which will allow customers to use their software in around three years.__________________
